Introducing Kim P (McGee) Sami – Me!

I grew up in Revesby, in the South-Western area of Sydney, Australia. I read ever since I could read, spending every school holiday getting books out of the old Bankstown Library. I must have read almost every book in the Junior Section! I owe my love of reading to my mum, and from being the youngest by 8 years, having no siblings near my age to play with.

My first literary success came as a primary student with my poem, “Birds”, being published in Sydney’s  Sunday Telegraph newspaper “Charlie Chuckles” section.:

Up, up, up in the sky,

see the birds flying high

Soaring down among the trees,

their colourful feathers are sure to please

Birdwatchers sitting quietly below,

wishing the birds would stay still, but no!

They must be on their merry way,

no matter what the time of day.

While a keen reader and English student, I also enjoyed Mathematics, and commenced journalling while completing my Bachelor of Science degree through the University of Sydney, graduating in 1986. I originally planned to be a computer programmer but failed Computer Science in 2nd year, so majored in Pure Maths and Maths Statistics for my sins!

I worked as a superannuation consultant for three years before being retrenched, returning to university, and completing my Social Work degree in 1996. It was here that I started writing poetry while reflecting on life. This practice continues to the present day.

After attending a symposium about writing and publishing, I decided to take my writing more seriously. I became a member and is the current secretary of the local Fellowship of Australian Writers’ group (FAW) and commenced sending my poetry and other short stories to different writing publications.  My first success, a flash fiction piece, The Knowing Gums, was published in Ariel Chart, in April 2020

After competing in the Half-Marathon of The Poetry Marathon 2020 online, one of my poems, The Light Giver, was accepted for publication in the 2020 Poetry Marathon Anthology, which is also included in my book, Orisons – Soulful Reflections – see in my section Writing with Soul. I has also just had three pieces published in the Canberra Christian Writers Anthology 2021 – see the Links section.

I am a singer, love people, reading all genres, writing, handicrafts, her NRL team St George Illawarra, and travel. I lives with my husband and two dogs in the Macarthur region of Sydney, Australia.
